Tree Planting Program Guidelines

The City of Stow offers a tree planting program to ensure beautiful, viable trees throughout our community for future generations. Trees may be planted in the tree lawn (between curb and sidewalk) or in a private front or side yard.

Application Process:
• There are typically two plantings, spring and fall. When applications are received will determine when the tree will be planted.
• Processed on a first-come, first-served basis. Remaining applications roll over to the next planting
• Tree applications can be paid for through the Parks online portal
• Applications may require inspection and approval by the Stow Arborist

Requirements:
• Tree lawn width must be at least 5 feet

Cost:
• $125 per tree (includes 2-inch caliper tree, installation, watering bag, and tree guard)
• City covers topsoil, mulch at planting, and labor
• Veterans, active military with honorable status, and active/retired first responders receive $50 discount with verification

Tree Selection and Planting:
• Stow's Landscape Arborist selects tree varieties for tree lawn trees
• Private yard trees selected by mutual agreement between property owner and Landscape Arborist
• Trees guaranteed for one year from planting date

Maintenance Responsibilities:
• Tree lawn trees: City maintains watering bags and waters for first 2 years
• Private yard trees: Watering bags become homeowner property; homeowner responsible for filling bags for two years and all maintenance after one-year guarantee period
